Juniors
Annual
Junior Award
A
junior perpetual award has been donated by "Trophy
Town Supermarket" of Kilsyth. Our thanks
goes to manager David Penaluna for agreeing to
sponsor this junior tennis award at Wantirna
Tennis Club.
The
award is based on a number of criteria put
together by our junior convenor and junior panel.
It is based on the "best junior club-person"
for the past 12 months and is presented at the
junior break-up barbecue each December. It is not
necessarily for the best tennis player or best
score but is based on a number of different
positive attributes demonstrated by the eventual
winner.
There
will be a perpetual trophy on display at the club-house
and a replica given to the award winner each year.
Congratulations from the committee go to all our
winners.
Wantirna
Tennis Club is very active in providing a
supportive environment for juniors to learn and
participate in the game of tennis.
Saturday
morning competition is
provided via the Eastern Region Tennis
Association. Wantirna usually has 10 to 15 teams
participating providing opportunity for around 70
young tennis players to compete each morning.
Formats include boys, girls and mixed doubles as
well as singles and doubles at the higher
standard levels.
Support
is provided for the juniors in a number of ways. Coaching is
available several nights a week from our T.C.A.V
accredited coach. The junior convenor holds a
position on the club committee so that junior
tennis has an important voice in committee
decisions. Match days are supervised directly by
the junior convenor and a group of supporting
parents. Canteen facilities are also available
match days to provide snacks and drinks to
players and spectators. There is opportunity for
players to be selected for further coaching in
specially sponsored training squads co-ordinated
by the E.R.T. Association.
Our
junior members have their own club championships
held early in the year.
